Meow...

*ahem*  Mrow.  Is this thing on?

Oh, good.  Listen.  Mom stepped out for a minute...maybe he's bringing me food?  Hi.  I'm Marbles.  You might know me as the fat kitty in the chair.  I think that's what Mom calls me.  Mrow.  I'm a little hungry.  Does anyone have some food?  I don't want--wait...was that a wrapper crinkling?  Oh, no...just my tail brushing some junk off the bed.  Why do they put all their stuff on the best places to sit?  The food room table is always cluttered.  Behind the picture box thingy is full of cords, and whenever I get on the counter where all the delicious dishes are, they both yell at me.  Mom wakes up from a sound sleep if she hears me get up there.  It's how I get him out of bed some mornings when I can't find his glasses to chew on.

What was I going to say?  Oh, right.  Food.  Does anyone have any food I could have?  As you can see, I'm wasting away to nothing.  A kitty needs his strength, and I'm almost too tired to yowl at the top of my lungs and race around the house today.  Mom doesn't appreciate my singing, especially when she's asleep.  But as long as I stay an arm's length away from him, then I can do whatever I want.  Then he calls me naughty kitty and sends Dad after me.

And Dad...oh man...he flips me over and rubs my belly.  He puts me on his shoulders to ride around.  He pries my lips apart and looks at my "little teefers," whatever those are.  But he gives me cheese...so I let him.  I bite Mom when Mom does it, because he's always telling Dad to stop giving me food, since I'm so fat.  It's muscle, I swear!  I just wish it wasn't so hard to clean my belly and feet.  I lick and lick and lick, and then I'm all out of breath so I sigh.  Mom laughs at me.  Dad starts cooing and picks me up to rub my belly that I JUST CLEANED!

It's hard living with Mom and Dad...especially when I'm so hungry all the time.  Does anyone have any food?

How does Mom usually end these things?

Texting Your Mom...

I am having a text conversation with my mom right now. It's sort of odd. She's not really "tech savvy." But it's nice when I have a quick question, because most times I don't call her unless I have an hour or so to talk, because a ten second conversation sprials out of control into an hours-long chatfest. It never fails.

And next? Maybe I'll text your mom.

Yesterday I took an hour-long bike ride. I got a little sun and a lot of exercise. I saw the Water Guy! And I was looking cute in my blue, orange, brown, and khaki plaid shorts and my brown tank top. Hell yes! So, I came home and then unexpectedly went to help my friend Jenni move. Let's just say that by 9:00 I wanted to be in bed. I was so exhausted!

Robb was tired, too. And so we came home and had a stupid fight. And then I stayed up and read for an hour while he showered and went to bed. And after I finished James Baldwin's Another Country, I wasn't mad anymore. I just wanted to love my boyfriend and sleep in the same bed. So I went to bed at 11:00 and couldn't fall asleep because the damn blinds kept sucking against the window in the breeze and waking me up every time I dozed off. And I had a lot on my mind. And my arm was hurting from when I sliced it open yesterday. So I had a pretty horrific night of sleep.

This morning I wanted to sleep in, but I was worried the mailman would come and I'd miss him and miss my package. Oh, and the damn cat was knocking everything off the headboard and meowing and walking on my face and biting me...he won't let me sleep past 9:00, ever!

Blah. So I'm exhausted. And today? I have to make two chocolate chip cheesecakes, go pay the electric bill that's overdue, go pay rent, and then we're going to color Easter eggs with friends...and sleeping over...and going out tomorrow and Sunday, too. I'm going to be so exhausted by the end of this weekend.

Anywho...I'm not sorry I'm bitching today. It's one of THOSE days. Maybe I'll take a nap...

Another Bank?

Yes. I applied at another bank in town. This one's local (less bullshit and bureaucracy? I hope so.) and has a bunch of locations around town. They've got several teller openings, so...maybe I'll be able to get right back in where I left off, but with the competition.

I'm not ecstatic about another bank job, but I'm qualified and it would be a steady income. And in a smaller bank, the possibility for advancement seems much more likely, since they're recruiting people from inside AND not from all across the whole dang country.

So...there's that. I also checked on a few jobs yesterday. One of them turned out to be in a garage, fixing cars. That's NOT "customer service" last I checked.

And now I'm typing around the cat, who just scared the hell out of me by launching himself onto the computer desk with a yowl. It's hard to see the keyboard or the monitor around a 14 pound cat.

Okay. I guess it's time to feed his royal highness.

ICE STORM!!!

So...apparently on the only day I have to (HAVE TO!!!) travel, we're getting ice.  A quarter of an inch of it.  And rain.  Three inches of it.  And cold.  That means flooding and ice.  Woot.  Christmas Eve I'll get to skate to my mom's house and hope I don't die, and Christmas night I'll get to swim back home and hope I don't drown.

I'm dreaming of a mild Christmas...

Speaking of that particular holiday:

I probably won't be back before then, so Merry Christmas, all.  I certainly hope your travels are safe and your moments are merry.  Consider this your Christmas card.

From all of us at Viewtiful_Justin, merry Christmas and best wishes for a great 2010!

With holiday love,

Internet Famous...

Hey guys!  I was trying to figure out what to post today, when I came across a message in my inbox from Hardest Level.

Apparently they were going to use my Top 5 Tuesday post from this week on their blog!  Sweet!

Check it out!

I'm thrilled.  It totally made my day!  My week!  And hey, people are READING IT!  That's the amazing part.

In other news...does anyone know how to muzzle a cat?  He's loud.

Chicago Pride 2009....

It was a gorgeous day in Chicago on Sunday, which was a nice change from last year's rain.  Unfortunately for Robb and I...

...our view for most of the day looked like this:

Apparently we picked the one spot to set up shop that the cops AND photographers would be standing in front of.  So...all of my pictures were pretty lackluster.  Someone is always in the foreground, whether that be the cute, chain-smoking security guard, the big, fat photographer, or one of three cops.  My apologies in advance.

I'm mostly going to let the photos do the talking.  Like this one:

I bonded with the lesbians next to us over that guy's shoes.  We were fast friends.

This woman was in the parade again, with her gay son (left) and his hot-as-hell partner (right).

This one is for my friend Jhonna:

It has always been her favorite part of the parade, and she was supposed to bei n town to come with us, but, like everyone else, she kind of crapped out on plans.  Poo.

The gay Jews were there, people close to my own heart.

There was plenty of color and sun all the way through.

The people in the surrounding apartments had the best views:

This woman was in the parade again, too.  I recognized her as the prettiest girl in the whole parade last year.  She was my favorite.  And she looked no worse off this year!

My computer is telling me my links are broken...and this is after an hour of fighting with the damn photo uploader.  I can tell this is going to be a headache already.  Grr.  [FIXED IT!]

Let's move on, and I'll try to come back and fix these later.

Robert Jeffrey had a superhero themed float this year.

How fun!

And they were followed somewhat later by the hot gay cowboys, who, last year, were dancing.  This year, not so much.

Still hot, though.  Just like Ketty and her Latin Revue!

And what chicago gay event would be complete without the drag queen best known to everyone in the area, the one who called me "Pineapple" on Halloween, before we knew who she was:

MISS FOOZIE!!  She's our favorite.

And she's WAY less creepy than this:

Yup.  It's Bozo the Clown on the Channel 7 (9?) float.  I put him up on my Chicago Pride blog last year and got so many random hits from it.  I still think he's kinda creepy.

If I could get my video to upload, you'd be watching the R. O. T. C. twirl through right here.  It's no secret that these boys have a spot in my heart.

Mmm.  They're wonderful, hot, and fun!

Speaking of hot...there were a lot of politicians in this year's parade, but not one was hotter than Alexi Giannoulias.

He can run my government any day of the week!

Things continued in a fairly political vein for al ittle bit, including this:

It says, "Life begins when you stand up to Christian Fascists."  The group marching with them was chanting some fairly hateful stuff, and I thought it was really lame that they were fighting hate with hate.

And the Log Cabin Republicans were there, too:

Another interesting point of view.

And then things got back into the physical realm, which, I'd like to say, wasn't NEARLY as impressive as it was in former years.  This was the fourth parade I'd been to, and this was teh least impressive of all of them, honestly.  The floats were smaller and the guys were less hot.  I'm sure the economy has something to do with all of that.

This float, however...

...might be the hottest one in the parade.  Hydrate always has good floats, though.  All the bars in the area usually do.

Check out Roscoe's:

I thought the guy in the glasses was a nice touch.  I love a man in glasses.

Another bar float, and the one that I think was the most creative:

Crobar.  If you look closely, you'll see a man riding a GIANT popsicle on top of that ice cream truck.  It was clever...the logo and all.

Someone else who always has a hot float:

Miller Lite!  It seems when alcohol is involved, they go all out for the parade.  Apparently the gays love their drinks.  Meh.  I just love me some hot sailors.

This next one was the single most shocking thing in the whole parade...and the single most shocking thing I've ever seen in person.  I'm not even exaggerating a little.

This woman had her boobs hanging out, and the lesbians next to me were hooting and hollering.  She was dancing and shaking her bare breasts...which wasn't the shocking part.

The shocking part was when she dropped her drawers to reveal a penis.  Qua?!

  [slightly before the big reveal]

Instantly the girls were silent, along with most of the rest of us.  The cops in front of us were trying to figure out what had just happened, and it was hilarious to watch them talk to each other with such funny expressions on their faces.

And then...the parade went on.

About this time, probably due to the horror that it had just witnessed, my camera died.  Luckily, the parade was almost over.  I did get some shots of Southwest Airlines.

We're flying with them to San Diego in less than two weeks!  AHHHH!!!  Vacation is so close I can feel it on my skin.

After the parade, we wandered around for a bit, taking in the sights.

And then we decided to get back home.  We're not bar people, and we'd had a lot of fun.  Robb's knee was hurting him and we just kind of wanted to get back to see our Marbles Kitty.  He'd been alone since Saturday, when we threw Robb a surprise 30th birthday party (that it's been KILLING ME not to talk about here).

On the way back to the train there was a crowd in the street, and some boys were dancing in a window of an apartment.  But right below them were some real men, just hanging out and showing off.

That's for all my bear-loving readers out there.  All two of you?

It was really a great time, overall.  And I got out of there with only a REALLY PAINFUL scalp sunburn.  Dang.  I can't WAIT till that starts peeling.  Flake city.

Anywho, thanks for sticking with me for my Pride '09 blog!  I've got some blogs planned for the future, and I think I'm going to start a Tuesday feature called "Top Five Tuesday."  That might have to wait until after vacation, though.

Obligatory Update...

Okay, all. Obviously there's nothing exciting going on in my life right now. If there were, I'd be updating. The last post I actually wrote was for my other blog, and all it contained was a snippet about how sometimes, when I eat peach yogurt, all I can taste is cheese.

It's true.

What's going on in my life?

I'm saving for vacation.
I rode my bike 5.5 miles.
I am sunburned and entering that itchy stage.
Punch Out!! for the Wii is phenomenal. It's every bit as good as the original NES game and maybe even better.
I repeat, "There you are. Have a nice day." seven hundred thousand times a week.
I got bitten by our cat the other day.
My boyfriend is still a gimp, but he's getting better.
I'm off Monday. Bank holiday.

Other than that...there's really nothing going on. So...my apologies for not updating.

Tagged!

A great blogger, Jasmine at An Experiment in Poverty, tagged me for this one. I was thrilled.

Rules to follow... if you're the kind who follows rules: Respond and rework. Answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own. Tag five other un-tagged people.

What is your current obsession?
I guess it might be our new cat, Marbles. He’s freaking adorable. We just learned that he loves to play the blanket game, where we put him under a sheet and poke at him, and he fights back. So cute.

What are you wearing now?
I’m wearing my forest green sweater with the thin, horizontal grey stripes, my grey pinstripe pants, and my black argyle socks. It’s business casual, baby. But only because I’m at work. At this time of day at home, I’d be in my birthday suit.

Do you nap a lot?
No. Almost never, actually. Napping leaves me feeling groggy and disoriented for days. I must never have inherited that one from my mother. It’s about the only thing we don’t have in common.

What would you like to learn to do?
Cook. I’d love to learn to cook. I’m a terrible multitasker, so timing and doting on more than one thing on the stove is really hard for me. I always end up with cold noodles and sauce and hot bread. Or…you know…But I make a mean grilled cheese sandwich.

What’s for dinner?
I don’t know. I don’t usually cook. It’ll probably be something fast, since we have to eat between when I get off work at 6:15 and church at 8:15. I know it’s two hours, but I won’t get home until 6:30 and then it’s changing and playing with the cat and playing with the boyfriend…you know, time consuming stuff. We might just eat out.

What was the last thing you bought?
Yesterday I went to a thrift store in town and bought One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, a book of random facts for Robb, and Elite Beat Agents for the Nintendo DS. Grand total? $10.83. I love No Strings Attached.

What is your favorite weather?
I love sunny, 70-80 degrees. Anything that makes for great picture taking. Cloud cover washes everything out…no fun at all. Although, I love a good rain, provided that I have nowhere to be.

What is on your bedside table?
I don’t sleep in my own bed. Mine is basically a guest bed in our apartment. But on the table is a drunken Homer Simpson lamp, three books (To Life: A Celebration of Jewish Thinking and Being, Best American Short Stories 200#, -- 8? Is it 8? – and Bearing an Hourglass), my checkbook and car payment booklet, my alarm clock, my change can, a box with all my random foreign coins in it (I should blog about that), a box of Kleenex (currently empty), and several small things I should probably throw away.

What is your most challenging goal right now?
Making enough money to pay my bills. I need a full time job. Working part time at a bank for under ten dollars an hour just isn’t cutting it for me.

Do you have a blog you read daily even when there are no updates?
I used to look at See Kyle Draw (kyle-cummings.blogspot.com) all the time, but now that he’s stopped posting artwork as often, I don’t go there as much. Other than that, Bent Objects (bentobjects.blogspot.com) is a great one.

What would you like to have in your hands right now?
Adam Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5. Or twenty thousand dollars to pay off my loans.

What would you like to get rid of?
The extra body fat around my midsection. I need to start running or something…the abs I do crunches twice a day for are somewhere under that extra poundage. And, admittedly, it’s not much. But it’s enough.

What language(s) do you want to be able to speak?
I would love to speak German. Or Russian. I adore the German language.

What's one thing you're looking forward to?
See previous blog. VACATION!!!!! Although, admittedly, I'm a little bit freaking out about the cat being there without us for almost two weeks. I couldn't sleep last night because I was thinking about it. I need a cat sitter.

If you were to pick up a pen right now, what would be the first thing you'd write?
Probably the date. I always date something if I write it. Who knows when I’ll look back at it again. I had a great idea for a poem last night, and I let it get away without writing it down. Grr.

Who was your childhood crush?
Well, in my childhood it was the older brother of a boy I played with (with a last name like a gun). When I figured out what I actually wanted, though (read: high school), it was Jordan Swanson…oh man. I spent way too much energy thinking about that man.

What do you want to be... when you grow up?
A writer, a teacher, a librarian, a clerk at a bookstore…something. Maybe a cartoon voice actor. I’ve been told I’d be good at that. What I don’t want is to be defined by my career. I just want to be able to pay the bills and have a little something leftover to do what I love during my free time.

What (and when) was the last book you read?
I just finished reading On a Pale Horse a little over a week ago. It’s the first book of the seven-book Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony. I read five or six of them waaaay back in the day, when I was into fantasy and sci-fi, and I have always wanted to go back and read them again, if only to finish the series. They’re not as good as I recall them being, but nothing ever is.

I liked all of these questions, so I didn’t delete any of them. But I did add one of my own at the end. Now, to tag…

How about:

All right, then...

Rude Awakening...

I promise I'm not going to turn in to one of those blogs that's only story after story about my cat, not that there's anything wrong with that. Frankly, I find those blogs HIGHLY entertaining. But, I digress...

Sort of...

Anywho, this morning at promptly 5 AM there was a huge crash in the kitchen. I woke up and instantly thought, "Marbles!" Much like how Jerry says, "Newman!" in Seinfeld. I turned to Robb and said, "What the hell was that? It sounded like our nice big vase. But that's on top of the cupboards."

I swung my feet out and put them on the floor, stepping on the cat. He meowed at me and gave me those big eyes like, "What was that, guys? You'd better go make sure no one broke in! It sure wasn't me!"

And we all three went into the kitchen and flipped on the light, squinting at what I expected would be a major disaster zone.

Nothing. There was nothing around, and I started thinking we might all three be insane. And then I looked around some more and found one little metal thermos had been knocked off of the top of the fridge and onto the table where we keep our metal toaster oven and the metal Foreman grill and the metal crumb tray for said oven.

The damn cat was on TOP of the fridge. I just keep thinking about him running for his life when the thermos made a huge crashing noise as it landed on everything down there, and it makes me laugh every time. And there he was, sitting by the bed like he hadn't ever even THOUGHT about getting on top of the fridge. Little turd.

Cracks me up.

And then we couldn't get to sleep again...since Marbles was wide awake and intent on climbing on the headboard and knocking over the lamp and walking over us and just being a general ding-a-ling. A cute ding-a-ling.

I love this cat.

Settling In...

So, I think we've got a routine.

In the morning we get up and find Marbles under my bed, the one we don't sleep in. Robb tries to get him out from under the bed and he lays there. After I start doing my crunches, he comes out to see what I'm doing. And then we love on him until it's time for someone to leave for work, ignoring his meows and his constant herding us towards the front door.

He's still obsessed with the front door. I had to physically restrain him today, although he didn't put up much of a fight once I picked him up. And when I left, there was no one to hold him back. Do you know how hard it is to convince a cat that they don't want to know what's on the other side of a door? Holy cow.

So I go to work.

And when I get home, he's on our bed. He then tries to convince me he needs to go outside. And when I don't relent, he goes to sleep.

When Robb gets home, he wakes Marbles up and we love on him some more. And when we go to bed, he's in the bed with us, sleeping in the middle trough between us. Sometime in the night he walks across my face and goes to lay under the bed in the other room. And that's where we find him in the morning.

He's so lazy. We love it. And he's also the most laid back cat I've ever met. He never even thinks of biting or swatting...except once this morning, which is slightly hilarious and slightly more information than anyone needs to know.

This morning I got up and started to work out, like I always do. And since I sleep naked, I work out naked, because my shower is right after that. Well, this morning I was doing crunches and he comes out from under the bed, walks over me, turns around, and starts sniffing my junk. He recoils three times in a row, and then he extends a paw and swats it! I lost it, and he looked at me like, "What the hell is that?" And I lost it again. I am SO glad he is front declawed...that could have been ugly.

Saint Marbles McGillicuddy Otto-Matic Boxcar McGee, Patron Saint of the 2 AM Wake-Up Call...

So, I'm fairly sure no one is going to be able to guess what this blog is about from the title unless they've talked with me in the last 24 hours.

Maybe the best way to explain it would be by showing you a photo.

That's right. We got a cat. FINALLY! And now you're wondering about the title.

Well, we call him Marbles, because that's the name he got from Tails, the shelter in DeKalb/Sycamore where we got him. But his full name is up there in the title. The spelling isn't final, but the name sure as hell is.

See, Robb has always named his cats AND his cars something ridiculous. He had a car named Countess Prunewhip Verbena Von A La Eton. I'm sure I spelled that wrong. And he had a cat named Senorita Juanita Georgina Santina Beaner Bertha Pugsley Priscilla Antoine Scantron O'Brien the Third. Yup.

So...now we've got this one.

Saint Marbles McGillicuddy Otto-Matic Boxcar McGee, Patron Saint of the 2 AM Wake Up Call. That second part is because last night, the first night he was home with us, he sat next to the bed at the aforementioned unglodly hour of the morning and meowed until we invited him up into the bed. And then he laid on my chest and fell asleep. And so did I.

Details: He's twelve years old, front declawed, neutered, and microchipped. He was apparently picked up as a lost stray and donated to Tails so he could have a loving home. And now Robb and I are doing our damnedest to give him just that. He's the sweetest cat, too. The only thing that gives us pause is his current obsession with the front door. He's crazy about us coming and going...and he wants OUT! Silly cat.

So, we're new dads to a cat that, if he were a person, would be 70+ years old. Me-yow!
