Fired...

Yup. I got fired today.

I don't really have much to say right now. My mom told me I should get drunk as hell tonight and tomorrow start looking.

I'm most upset that I won't get to talk to my customers and let them know they won't be seeing me anymore. Unfortunately, there were some I liked. The rest? Fuck 'em.

My boss fired me and then told me he could write a letter of recommendation if I wanted it. I got up to walk out and he started telling me what to do. I looked at him and said, "You can't tell me what to do; you're not my boss anymore, remember?!"

So...yeah. Not graceful. But whatever...I told him I appreciated that he could write me a letter, but that it was shitty that after giving them two fucking years of my life they couldn't give me two fucking days of notice. He said there was nothing else he could do. I told him I didn't want to be there anymore and asked him what I would have to do to be able to just leave. He asked for my keys, but first I cleaned out my vaults with all my sticky notes, drawings, etc. I accidentally locked my vault without putting my coin back in it. I just tossed the keys on the counter and said, "I guess you can put those away. I don't work here anymore!" And I walked out.

Debbie tried to put a hand on my shoulder and say she was sorry, but I just kept walking and told her, "I'll see you later. I still bank here, you know."

And I walked out. I couldn't stay. I would have cried.

Ugh. This has seriously been the worst month of my entire life.

And PS. I hate to be bitchy, but it's really a bummer that a post I put so much work into yesterday didn't get ANY attention. So...whatever.

Anger Management...

Yesterday, at one point, I was screaming at my printer at the top of my lungs and smashing my fists on the desktop like some kind of giant baby throwing a tantrum. No, really.

My day went like this:

Me: I would love it if my camera worked again magically.
Camera: Okay! Done.
World: Oh, no...we can't have that.
Crap: We're on it!

And the floodgates opened.

Before I left for work my packages from Amazon showed up. I waited all day to get home and play the game I bought for my Wii. I was short $19.01 at work. I got home and popped said game into my Wii and it wouldn't read the disk. I tried and tried, to no avail, getting angrier all the time. That's what I do when inanimate objects malfunction...it's my rage trigger.

So I tried another game, and it worked perfectly. It was definitely the disk.

I called Robb to vent, and our conversation was sort of like this:

Me: I need to vent or I'll die.
Him: My phone's about to die; I'll call you later when I can plug it in. I'll call you later.
Me: Don't bother. I'll be at church...or lying in a heap because my head exploded. Bye.

Out of sheer hope, I cleaned the disk and tried again. No luck. So I threw it back into the box and got on Amazon. Their return policies are wonderful. I chose to print my own prepaid shipping label. I hit print after installing our printer driver on the new computer, and it started. Here's how it went down:

World: Ready, printer?
Printer: Ready! Ready crap?
Crap: Ready!

Out of ink. Paper jam. Flashing light that wouldn't go off no matter what I did. Print job that wouldn't cancel.

My printer was in dangerous territory, because NOTHING makes me angrier faster than printer malfunctions. I wish I were kidding, but I've been known to beat the shit out of a printer that won't stop being an idiot. I once punched a printer in the face and it spit out a handful of gears, and from then on it worked perfectly. It was so odd...

I have anger issues. I've always been a person with a terrible temper, but I've mostly gotten it under control over the years. It only comes out once in a while (mostly when printers are involved).

So...I did what any sane, logical, rational, calm person would do. I screamed," CANCEL THE FUCKING PRINT JOB!!!" at the top of my lungs and slammed my fists down on the desk top, scaring the cat out of the room.

I'm sure there were other choice words, but I was in a fugue at that point. I raised my fists at the printer, and then I put them down, unplugged it, emailed myself the link to the shipping label, and said I'd do it tomorrow at work.

I think that's progress. Don't you?

An Open Letter To My Friends...

Dear friends,

I've been debating about whether or not to write this since about a week before Robb's surprise party. This is something I'd like to talk about with each of you in person, but the chances of that are slim. So, I'm just going to put this out there to get it off my chest.

I must have sent out thirty invites to his surprise 30th birthday party. And do you know how many of my friends came? Zero. His friends were all there, but not one of mine would come. "It's too far," they said. "We don't know where it is," they said.

Not "Can we have directions?" Not "Hey, other friend, wanna carpool?"

And I know some of my friends had valid reasons, and this is not for them.

Robb wasn't that disappointed (at least on the surface), but I was. I don't think they know what he does for them. When they have parties, he always insists on making something for them. I would rather just bring chips or something like potato salad from a store, because I know that's about how appreciated they'll be. But HE insists on going that extra mile.

Not to mention the fact that for years I used to drive 45 minutes EACH WAY once a week to see them. And my friends can't be bothered to drive an hour ONCE to support my boyfriend and me. And I think that sucks.

A lot.

So, thanks for letting me down, guys. I really appreciate that. It looked really good when he walks in to a surprise party and HALF the guests were there, NONE of them being my half of the friends. It goes to show you how much you all care about us and how much you appreciate all he does for you.

I wouldn't expect too much in the future from either of us.

(Dis)invited

I wish I could tell you that this past Sunday I had a great time at Medieval Times with Robb and his family for his dad's birthday. Unfortunately, I cannot. It has nothing to do with the show or the service. I'm sure they were wonderful. It has everything to do with the fact that I was uninvited.

Disinvited, as I've been calling it, because the manner in which it was done was so disrespectful.

Let's go way back...way back to before I'd ever met Robb. His older sister married a guy named Scott. And he was cool, way cool. He loved the drag queens, and he and Robb's sister even took Robb to his first pride parade. He was pretty much everything you could want in a brother-in-law.

And then something happened. And no one is really sure what...

He lost his job. He started drinking. That was last year-ish.

Fast forward. Robb and his sister are planning to take their dad to Medieval Times for his birthday. Dinner and tournament! Plans were laid. I was invited. And then I heard nothing for a while.

Fast forward to Friday of last week.

Robb emails me. Family drama. He didn't want to talk about it through email. He didn't want to talk about it at all. I went home and was getting ready for my birthday party. Robb was visibly bummed out. I asked him why.

Apparently his once-cool brother-in-law has taken all his accumulated self-loathing and become Hector Projector. And now we're the hated ones. Because we're gay. Suddenly he's this uber-religious, super-conservative, hateful bastard. He told his wife that he wouldn't go if we were both there. And then they bought tickets for everyone who was planing on going EXCEPT me.

So, in order to avoid conflict on the day they were celebrating his dad's birthday, Robb went. He pulled his sister aside and told her how horrible and discriminatory it was that this was going on, but he went. I don't fault him for that. I'd have done the same thing.

And she says she's going to do something about it. I am not holding my breath.

It's the first time I've been actively discriminated against--singly, anyway. And it makes me sick. How can someone I've had next to NO contact with be so shitty to me? How can he be such an asshole to his brother-in-law Robb who has been nothing but a spectacular uncle to his kids?! It's a damn shame, really.

And when someone hates me for no reason, it makes me want to give them a reason. I know I'd feel a hell of a lot better about him if he hated me for a reason. And if I didn't care so much about his sister and those three kids, I'd firebomb the damn house, slash his tires, do donuts in the back yard...something...anything to give him a reason.

But this senseless, baseless, random hatred is too much for me to handle. And it's not okay. Ever.

Whatchu talkin' 'bout? Willis?!

Have you heard this one yet?

Apparently a company is renting a little over three percent of the Sears Tower (140,000 sq. ft.) for $14.50 a square foot. That's $2,030,000. And that's what it costs to rename a world landmark. Shameful, really.

Willis Group Hldings, Ltd. is to blame. And now...we have The Willis Tower. Boy, it has a nice ring to it. If you're deaf and stupid.

They said that they did it to show Chicago how committed they are to the city and how they think Chicago should be recognized as a center for commerce. Great plan! I can imagine the board meeting...

"How can we get them to love us?"
"I know! Let's rename their most beloved landmark with our company name!"
"That's brilliant! Bonuses for all!"

Ugh.

I haven't heard anyone say they're happy about this, and I most certainly hate them for it. Didn't take much. Great plan, guys. Great plan...

Closer...

I just finished watching Closer starring Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Jude Law, and Clive Owen. What a messy movie. What a sad movie. And what a sobering movie.

I was going to put up a pulse that just said, "Clive Owen is gorgeous. ESPECIALLY when he's angry." But I knew I'd run out of space after I realized I wanted to talk about how messy that movie is. And about how much I love Julia Roberts...and Natalie Portman. They're both really good actors. At least, in my opinion.

But this isn't a post about JR and NP. It's a post about how delicious Clive Owen is. I never noticed before. And it's not all the time...just when he's distraught, crying, yelling, and just plain mad. Mmm. I would pluck his eyebrow hair just to watch him wince.

I mean, look.

Heck yes.

Watch the movie, and pay close attention to when he's bawling Julia Roberts out. Amazing.

This has been Man Candy Saturday Night with Viewtiful_Justin.
