Springtime Fresh...

Ever seen Bambi?

You know that scene where everyone is twitterpated?

I feel like that. All of a sudden, I'm having a whorey day. It's certainly better than moping and feeling unattractive, that's for sure!

Now? I gotta eat some lunch. And then I'm riding my bike to go pay the rent. Let's just hope I don't run into the Water Guy...who knows what might happen!

I just got a call from the bank where I had that bad interview.  They want me to drive an hour tomorrow morning for another interview.  I told them I would.  And now?  I just don't want to...but that's not the point of this post!

It was almost 80 yesterday, and it's looking to be about the same today!

I would have been stupid NOT to ride my bike yesterday.  So, off I went in my black tank top and black and blue plaid shorts.  I wanted a tan.  I figured I'd burn.  I didn't really do much of either, despite being out in the sun for almost an hour.  But there's plenty more year left, and I am determined to be tan (without using a tanning bed) before Pride this year!  And I'm hoping to avoid a farmer's tan for once in my life.  We shall see.

Speaking of seeing...I met this happy lady on my ride:

She was chasing a stick thrown by her man.  I rode up and heard a big SPLASH!!!  I thought, "Gosh, I hope that wasn't what it sounded like!  It was not.

She was a good fetcher!  Her man and I chatted a little about how she was living the high life...and how she touched the Kish so she's never leaving DeKalb again.  But hey, when your whole life is get-the-stick, get-the-stick, get-the-stick, I think DeKalb is a pretty good place to be damned.

It certainly is pretty this time of year.  It almost makes me forget about winter entirely when the Violets start poking their white and purple heads up.

They're my next favorite, after Daffodils...maybe because they usually pop their heads up right after.

We were all enjoying the sun.  And today?  I think I'm going to do the same once more.  Who knows...maybe I'll see the Water Guy leaping into the Kish to fetch something...

Except...i just got a phone call from a friend who wants me to help her move.  Right.  I'd almost forgotten.  Maybe I'll just ride my bike over there.

Renege...Uncut Version...

So, I know I said yesterday that I was so sick of talking about jobs.  And I am.  But.

I applied for two bank jobs today.  A friend came through with an unexpected recommendation that went ALL THE WAY to the BANK OWNER!  So, I sent an email with my resume to one, filled out an application for another, and Ka-BAM!  I'm applied.

Let's just hope I'm employed soon...

***EDIT***

So, I applied at a different bank today thank the one I sent my resume to, because a friend of mine told me (when I ran into him and his girlfriend at Target last night--random!) that they were hiring.  So, I got an email to take a pre-recorded telephone interview...so I did.  Then HR calls me and asks about my termination from National City (ugh)!  THEN!  The bank manager calls me and asks me to interview on MONDAY!  Woot!  So...maybe something WILL work out!

***EDIT AGAIN***

And then I got a call from the bank I sent my resume to asking me to fill out an application, so I went to a branch and did just that!  It's like I hit the jackpot today...with that and yet ANOTHER Water Guy sighting (he waved at me first!).  Crazy...happy birthday to me!

***END***

In other news, it's turning out to be a lovely day!  I got my new T-shirt, and I got my prize from Club Nintendo...maybe I'll model them later.  Sweet.

***ANOTHER EDIT***

So, I got all nice and showered (second time today) and put on my cute new shirt.

Yes.  That IS Super Mario sushi.  Frog Mario on one end, Blooper on the other, and Cheep Cheeps in the middle.  Amazingly morbid and cute stuff!  Anywho...there's that.  And my Club Nintendo Prize?

It's a game/stylus holder for the DS, which is LOVE.  And the best part?

Rainbow stylus collection!  Yessirree!  And now you know what a big dork I am...if you're just joining us.  If you're a long-time reader and you didn't know that...shame on you!

***END***

And!  I think it looks nice enough outside that I might be able to slip in a bike ride.

Then?  Tonight my friend Katie is throwing a party for herself and me in celebration of our joint birthday (Sunday the 11th).  So...it's all kinds of great stuff!

OH!  And as an early birthday present, I ran into the Water Guy at Wal Mart last night.  He was browsing video games.  SCORE!!!  Did I say hello?  No...my brain went to mush and my only thought was "FLEE!!!"

Bah...I'll get it right one of these times.

Sweet Dreams Are Made of These...

Last night I had a dream about the Water Guy. He lived in a tiny attic apartment with a filthy mattress and a water cooler. He told me his name was Nick Emmling and that his cell number was (813) 547-2540. Things got naughty. I think my body and mind are telling me I need to get laid.

Remember when I got fired? Let's just say I remember that more clearly than the last time I had sex.

We've been busy...and sort of low in the self esteem department. I wasn't feeling sexy or anything after losing my job, and he was injured. And while I'd be happy to have it any time, any where, our routine is a weekend morning type of thing. Maybe we can shake that up, since we're always busy on the weekends...

Blah. This is depressing.

Enough TMI.

I had a great idea for my blog today, and now I cannot remember what it was.

We took shelter last night in the bathroom for a few minutes because the storm outside was so bad. The wind was so strong at one point that it sounded like we were in a car going down the road with all the windows open. Scary stuff! So, when Robb says we should take shelter, I'm taken back to all those storms from my childhood where we sat in the basement with flashlights and prayed to God our house didn't end up on the news. And you know what? It's still standing. Although one time it was so windy that it blew a shingle off our roof that flew off and punctured the radiator of a friend's car as he drove past our house one day. No lie! How strange is that?

Script Frenzy is in full swing. I'm at 14 pages. I have no idea where I'm SUPPOSED to be, since I can't find a freaking calendar for this event ANYWHERE! But I'm getting there.

In other news, Friday we're having a party at my friend Katie's house for our joint birthday (which is on Sunday). Come on over! Call me for directions.

I'll stop rambling now. You might get a good post soon, but life's been pretty dull. Just a lot of searching for jobs and applying and not getting any response. I told God last night that I gave up my job for Lent, and now it's past Easter so I want it back! I'm still waiting on his people to contact my people...

Texting Your Mom...

I am having a text conversation with my mom right now. It's sort of odd. She's not really "tech savvy." But it's nice when I have a quick question, because most times I don't call her unless I have an hour or so to talk, because a ten second conversation sprials out of control into an hours-long chatfest. It never fails.

And next? Maybe I'll text your mom.

Yesterday I took an hour-long bike ride. I got a little sun and a lot of exercise. I saw the Water Guy! And I was looking cute in my blue, orange, brown, and khaki plaid shorts and my brown tank top. Hell yes! So, I came home and then unexpectedly went to help my friend Jenni move. Let's just say that by 9:00 I wanted to be in bed. I was so exhausted!

Robb was tired, too. And so we came home and had a stupid fight. And then I stayed up and read for an hour while he showered and went to bed. And after I finished James Baldwin's Another Country, I wasn't mad anymore. I just wanted to love my boyfriend and sleep in the same bed. So I went to bed at 11:00 and couldn't fall asleep because the damn blinds kept sucking against the window in the breeze and waking me up every time I dozed off. And I had a lot on my mind. And my arm was hurting from when I sliced it open yesterday. So I had a pretty horrific night of sleep.

This morning I wanted to sleep in, but I was worried the mailman would come and I'd miss him and miss my package. Oh, and the damn cat was knocking everything off the headboard and meowing and walking on my face and biting me...he won't let me sleep past 9:00, ever!

Blah. So I'm exhausted. And today? I have to make two chocolate chip cheesecakes, go pay the electric bill that's overdue, go pay rent, and then we're going to color Easter eggs with friends...and sleeping over...and going out tomorrow and Sunday, too. I'm going to be so exhausted by the end of this weekend.

Anywho...I'm not sorry I'm bitching today. It's one of THOSE days. Maybe I'll take a nap...

It was the most gorgeous day yesterday.  And today?  It's supposed to be EVEN NICER!  So, as I've been itching to do since fall, I hopped on my bike and cruised through town.  Oh my gosh, it was lovely!  I happened upon some new graffiti on the trail, and it made me wonder if it was put there in the fall or winter or just recently, although it looks like someone tried to paint over it unsuccessfully a while ago, so my money is on fall.  Anywho:

"How many have to die?  STOP THIS WAR"

And about three feet down was this:

"Free Tibet."  Good advice.  I think I'll put it on my to-do list for the day.

And, close to my own heart, someone did this:

A cute little bird...oh, and my shadow.  You can't see it there, but the wind was doing tragic things to my WAY-TOO-LONG hair.  It was a wreck.

But I had this little gem to remind me that it didn't matter:

It says, "Whatever you are, it's beautiful."  I'm just glad they got the punctuation correct.

And then I headed past the old train depot,

And into the college multi-family homes area, the older section of town.  While I was riding I noticed this building that I've never seen before, despite living in this area my whole life:

It looks like an old school or a hospital, but it was completely empty with "No Trespassing" signs all over it.  How strange that it's not in use AND that I'd never seen it before...And here DeKalb is in an uproar about building a new school...they're not even using this one!

But I continued, on a beeline for where the Water Guy works.

I took no photos of his place of employment because I didn't want to seem like a creeper, but mostly because I already have some.  So you get this church steeple and this odd house:

I love that neon lime door.  How cute!

I'd never really been in this area, so I rode around for a while, taking some photos.  This house was all decked out for Spring, and I wondered if it always looked like that:

Cute.

I was exhausted, though, and I had decided that I needed a hair cut.  Badly.  So, I rode home, past an inadvertently funny sign that's in a neighbor's lawn.  There's a back story here.  The county is discussing building a huge landfill somewhere in the vicinity.  So people are sort of in an uproar over it.  Signs have popped up all over in the lawns of people who oppose it, and this is what they say:

Yeah...it kind of makes me want to take a giant steaming dump in their front lawn.  Not gonna lie.  I snicker every time I see one.  And then I crave chicken and dumplings, because what's the opposite of a mega dump?  A dumpling!  I'll be here all week.

Onto the hair cut.  Here's my truly atrocious before photo:

I look wasted, and sort of stoned.  I was neither.

And after?

Much better!  I got so many compliments on the beard at church last night...it's a little overwhelming.  So...there.  Welcome to my day yesterday.  What you didn't see?  Three hours of Final Fantasy II, and me dancing along to Adam Lambert in my car.  That's about it.

I hope you take some time to get outside and enjoy the weather, if it is, indeed, nice today.  My old college friend Derek (derektb) is coming out here in the afternoon and we're going to drive to our old Alma Mater with the windows down and the music on and then meet some people for dinner later.  It'll be a hoot.

San Diego By Way of Alberta...

It's dream time here on Viewtiful_Justin, and have I got a doozy for you today!

I dreamt that I was going to San Diego to visit my Uncle Howard. Pretty tame. But the night before I was supposed to leave, I realized we had a layover in Alberta, Canada. And I had no passport, but they assured me that if I wasn't getting off the plane and actually stepping on Canadian soil, I would be fine.

So I flew Southwest Airlines (my carrier of choice in real life--they take good care of the gays and they don't charge for bags...plus, their prices are impossible to beat). And I met this really nice older woman on the plane, big hair, big glasses, big front butt. She was so sweet, though. And I informed her that this plane was making a stop in Alberta. She said she knew that, since she bought a ticket, too, and that's where she was getting off.

I am an idiot, even in my dreams.

And then I think I fell asleep because the next thing I recall was getting out of the airport at San Diego. The ocean was washing up right against the doors to the airport, and I had to wade to the parking lot past a fat little black girl who was adorable and kept asking me my name. She asked her mother to bring her her voodoo doll, because I wouldn't tell her my name. So I ran. And right when I was about to call my Uncle Howard to let him know I was in town, he showed up.

Except he was 1980s Uncle with the long hair and the bad teeth and the whole nine yards. And we walked to where he had the car. I saw a guy carrying a jug of water and I shouted, "Hey, Nick!" because, as I explained to my uncle, every water guy is called Nick.

And it turned out to be MY Water Guy...Nick. He was in San Diego for something...and I got in his hoopty van that was full of junk, and rode off with him. We were talking about whether or not he liked his job. He told me he loved it. He seemed really happy and we were just chatting, and then we pull up to a stop light and our faces are really close (since the only place to sit was on the folded up back seat right behind his seat), and he kissed me.

It was awesome. And I was like, "Well alright then. That answers that question." And then we went to this hotel room. He kept trying to find out when he could nail me, and I was unavailable. I couldn't do it right then because of medical reasons or something...and this girl was in the room.

She was gorgeous! Wavy brown hair and a model's body, great smile, long legs, etc. And she says to the Water Guy, she says, "I want some honey, too!" as we're making out. So he gets a bottle of honey and startes dribbling it all over her, and the girl screams and runs away and is like, "That's not what I meant, bastard!" And so they're fighting and wrestling all in good fun, like they're siblings or something.

And then my Uncle comes in and I'm all naked and covered myself with a blanket. He's like, "Are you guys doing the dirty-dirty in here?" And I said no. Because, we really weren't. And then he left and I woke up...I think.

Weird. I told Robb about it this morning. He laughed really hard at the fat little black girl who wanted her voodoo doll. I am ridiculous when I'm asleep. Here's proof.

Clarification:

Just for the record, Robb and I are fine.

He actually encouraged me to write the letter and keeps telling me I should deliver it to Nick at work...Hell, he told me if I don't write it, he'd write it himself--and we both knew I wouldn't want that!

So no, I'm not leaving him for the Water Guy, regardless of what his supposed response to my unsent letter might be.

Sorry for the confusion.

Seven Minutes...

I have seven minutes before I have to get in the shower and go to work all day.

Have I updated you on the Water Guy situation?

We were forced to go with corporate water because apparently PNC, the bank that bought National City, doesn't support local businesses. So we had to cancel the Water Guy. He came in last Friday and took the cooler away. I had a good long chat with him. He's actually a really articulate, funny guy. Which doesn't help.

Before he walked out I said maybe I'd see him around. He said, "I hope so." Hm.

I wrote him a little letter a few weeks ago when I found out he wouldn't be coming back.

It said I enjoyed seeing him and I was bummed he wouldn't be coming in anymore. I said I'd kick myself if I didn't at least ask him. So I asked him if there was more to the smiles and extended glances, or if it was just wishful thinking on my part. I said that if I was mistaken, I meant no harm and just know that I think you're pretty much sex on legs (not in those terms). And I left my phone number and email. Just in case.

But I didn't give him the letter. I was in such shock because I didn't think he'd be in the day he came in. I'm amazed my mouth even worked, let alone got something coherent out and made him laugh. So I forgot...and sort of neglected on purpose. Chickened out? Maybe. Decided I'd rather have that hope than an enemy? More likely.

But he's gone.

Nick, if you're out there, here's to you.

MISSING!!!

So...you may have noticed that Top 5 Tuesday was missing yesterday.  I wouldn't blame you if you didn't though...I sure as hell didn't...until about 11:00 PM when I was lying in bed and thought, "Shit..."

I guess you all get a week off.  My apologies.

My entire blogging drive has been put into blah mode after a meeting with the Hardest Level team last night.  Here's sort of how it went:

Leader:  This post Justin wrote is a prime example of what not to do.
Everyone else:  Agreed.  Yeah, whoever wrote this is an idiot.  Oh, they're in the room?  Moving on.
Leader:  So is this whole series of posts he's writing.  In fact, don't write about any specific games.  Don't write about anything retro or anything upcoming.  And stuff that's out now?  Don't write about it.  Have fun!
Everyone:  So....what do we write about?

And that's where we're left.  Writing about video games but NOT about video games.  And that nixes EVERYTHING on my ideas list.  So I'm pretty much fucked and not happy about it.  At all.

Last night I was lying in bed in that insane place right before sleep (the same place in which I composed a letter to the Water Guy...but that's another story) and I just thought, "Why do I even do this anymore?  What am I doing blogging.  It just goes on forever and won't ever get me anywhere."

And then I fell asleep and had dreams that I was stuck on a mini golf course naked.  Blah.

So...I'll get there, I'm...sure.  But like everything, it can't just be fun.

TMI Day...

I'd just like to issue a blanket statement to all my customers today: SHUT UP!!!

I don't want to hear about your husband cheating on you and you getting the house and then considering taking him back because we all screw up sometimes.

I don't want to hear about your invasive dental procedures and your opinions on insurance and dental costs, even less so if you adopt that ridiculous know-it-all tone.

I don't want to hear about your husband's debt.

I don't want to hear about your sunburn because of antibiotics and your grandma's warnings about it.

I ESPECIALLY don't want to hear about your pap smear.

What is it about today that makes people feel the need to share their most intimate details with the people at the bank? It's not a full moon...that's over. There must be someting in the air. I'll be exceedingly happy when it passes.

It's a good thing I leave for two weeks of vacation tomorrow.

Rain All Week...

Yup.  That's the forecast around here.  And do you know what I say to that?  Bring it on!

I went out and rode my bike today, since it doesn't look like I'm going to get the chance to do it later in the week.  It was the usual ride, with the trail through trees and the beautiful houses around campus.  I took a short tour of the frisbee golf field in town, too, and let me tell you.  Apparently shirtless frisbee golf is a popular pastime.  And now, so is riding the path through the frisbee golf field.  Can we say hot?  I even got an eyebrow raise from some cute guy...

Anycreeper, it was a nice, long ride.  About an hour all over town, and I didn't even cruise by Water Works.  So there!

The sky was beautiful.

See?

And all that blockage I talked about the other day?

Gone!  (Apparently it wanted to upload this one today and not when I needed it...)  I even saw two guys kicking their way downstream on what looked to be a makeshift inflatable raft.  Cool!  It must have held up, because I saw them again a bit downstream.

All this riding makes me wish I had a better seat...and a water bottle holder.  And a lock.  And a little pouch to carry my wallet/keys/phone/etc so I don't haave these HUGE pockets.  My ass probably looks like a woodchuck...

Enough about my ass, though.  I'm hoping to ride enough to NOT have a farmer's tan when we go to San Diego.  Although, is a wife-beater tan any better?  I can't win.

And now there's supposedt o be rain all week.  Time to stay in and play Chrono Cross on the Playstation.  I never fninshed that old gem the first time through.  Maybe I'll make it this time.

Getting to Know My Town Via Bike...

Note: This is a port from my other blog...Just so you know.

It's funny how much different a town you've known all your life seems once you get on a bicycle.  I've started paying more attention to sidewalks, how busy an intersection is, and where the trees hang low--things I never really noticed before.  It's a blessing to have a long stoplight instead of a reason to shake my fist at the sky and wish I were home.

Yesterday and the day before I spent a few hours on my bike, just cruising around town.  I thought it might be nice to share it with you.  I know...me, posting photos?  It's unheard of!  I think now would be as good a time as any for a blanket apology in that department.  I apologize for neglecting that part of my blog for quite some time.  I remember when every post had at least a little something from my camera.  It's not like I've stopped taking photos.  I take them all the time.  My camera comes with me everywhere.  It's just a matter of getting them from my computer, where they upload on my camera dock, to Robb's where I connect to the Internet.  And before you try to suggest I upload them to Robb's computer or I get my computer on the Internet, I'm just going to say no.  No.  My computer won't connect wirelessly.  And his computer won't take my photo software.  So.  Blah.

Anywho...I apologize.  Some days it just doesn't seem worth the effort.  I'll try to pick it up in that regard.

Gosh...I typed all that and my photos SILL haven't finished uploading...

*waits*  *fights with stupid computer in the other room that refuses to write a CD of photos and has told me ten times in the last four minutes that it is running low on memory*

There we go!  And...ummm...it uploaded one photo three times and left one out.  And you all wonder why I don't do this more often...

*shakes fist at Xanga*

This was across town, very near to where Robb used to live.  This was the path on which we decided we really wanted a cat after meeting His Royal Highness, Sir Iok Sllod Oog Oog Murphy Pickles Gunther Chuzzlewitt III.  He was a friendly stray cat.

From there I rode on across a bridge that was ALMOST under water.

I may not look like it, but that water is up to the edge of the bridge.  See?

Now it wont' let me upload more photos...what the hell?  Fine.  I had a photo of all this detritus from trees and junk backed up against the bridge, but you'll just have to trust me that you can see it on the right side of thatl ast photo...all that brown crap has water flowing under it.  Blah.

Moving on.  I rode on over to campus, where there are usually a lot of college guys running and biking and doing whatever they do in various stages of undress...but school is out.  So all I saw were Asians feeding the geese and some hippy guy smokingo n a bridge.  But I headed over to the beautiful old neighborhood behind the school and took some photos I've always wanted to take.

This house is one of my personal favorites.  It's the porch that does it for me.  See?

Xanga must have known this, because they uploaded this one three times.  Stupids.

And this is a house I hadn't actually noticed before, but I kind of liked the random green part on the front of it.

It's cute, except for the metal shutters on the front door...eww.  And then I rode across town, passed by where the Water Guy works (I had no idea it was three blocks from where I work), and headed home.  When I got home, I didn't really feel like I was done, so I decided to ride down the street to the little park where people play baseball on one of their two-ish diamonds.  I never see anyone there, but Robb claims it's almost always full when he comes home.

I took no photos of it, but I did snap this:

That's the top of the tower that protrudes from teh ground next to an AT&T building near our house.  I have no idea what it's for, but it's always been significant in my life.  When I was little, I always looked for it from the car.  It's how I knew we were almost to DeKalb.  And now I live right down the street from it.

Funny how life takes you places you'd never think.  Anywho, then I rode as fast as I could home.  It felt good to get out and get to know my neighborhood a little better.  I'd love to go again today, but I think it's going to rain and be nasty out all day.  Blah.

Boys...

So, if you've ever met a boy, and I think most of you have, you might agree with me when I say that they're ridiculous. Not in a bad way.

This was my morning conversation with the boy:

Me: I love you.
Robb: Do you?
Me: Yes!
Robb: Do you love the Water Guy?
Me: No, I do not love the Water Guy! I don't even know the Water Guy.
*smooch*

And then, before he leaves...

Me: I love you. Have a good day.
Robb: I love you, too. Ask the Water Guy about home delivery. *wink*

I'm just shaking my head going, "What...but...I...what?" Sometimes boys are silly.

The Other Shoe...

Yesterday my boss handed me my schedule and told me, "You got two Saturdays off!"

Immediately I started looking at my schedule to try to find the blow she was cushioning with the good news. I was expecting to not have any other days off or to be closing every day or something. After perusing the schedule, highlighting my hours, counting them, and putting a green ring around payday (also known as Water Guy day), I came to the conclusion that there was no bad news. I had plenty of hours; I opened a lot; AND I had two Saturdays off.

So why was I looking for the bad news?

I don't know if I've addressed this subject on my blog before, but I know I've been thinking about this for a while.

This whole "waiting for the other shoe to drop" thing...

I always find myself waiting for the bad news. I get a paycheck that's large and I expect car trouble or something else expensive. I do this ALL THE TIME. It's kind of a bad practice to get into, but I think I've found the cause.

Living in Illinois. Living in the Midwest, in general. Think about it. What do we get after most gorgeous days in the summer? A storm. The best days are followed by tornado warnings. And if it's a mild winter? We just KNOW it will be a scorchingly bad summer. Mild summer? Bad winter! We just EXPECT it!

It's the weather in the Midwest. It makes us all expect the worst after a bit of good news.

Think about it.

Well, I'm done waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's sandal weather!

Friday Popcorn...

Thank God it's Friday.

It's that special day of every two weeks, my favorite day of every two weeks. It's payday.

AND.

It's the day the Water Guy visits us. *SQUEEE* *Swoon* He's the best thing about my every-other-work-week. He struts in, 5 gallon jug slung over his shoulder, and takes it to the back, leaving me at the counter hoping no one comes in so I can smile at him and take the order slip. And I do. And he smiles back. I don't know if he's interested (and, oh, I'm taken), but he sure is fun to look at.

***EDIT***
Today he came in, went to the back, came up and set down his empty jug and chatted with me as he filled out our order slip. His shirt, per summer, was unbuttoned down to mid-chest, and he just smiled at me when he kind of caught me looking. *melt* He really brings out the thirteen-years-old girl in me.

In other news, check out this blog: Five Rules For Life. It's fairly amazing, and while you may not agree with all the people who post, I'm sure you'll find something to inspire you. You may even want to create your own.

Blind Melon's "No Rain" just came on the radio. It's one of my favorite songs...on a CD I've bought 3 times. Maybe 4. I've given my brother 2 copies, one of which he left in Iraq when he was stationed there, and one of which was in his car when it was stolen. And the third one I think maybe I gave him, too. And, now that I think about it, I don't ACTUALLY have a copy of this CD...it's just on my computer. But...good stuff.

So...hooray for Friday Popcorn! It's a good label for those days when you don't have anything significant to say but you don't really want to be silent.
