Work is eating my face...but in a totally good way!
I have an interview on Wednesday for the full time position in a different branch. It's sort of a bummer, because I love my coworkers and I'd hate to leave them. But I NEEEED the benefits. And I worked with a guy on Friday who works at the full time branch, and he was fun! So at least I'd know SOMEONE there. It would be weird not having a drive-up, though.
Anywho...
I've been at work, and when I haven't been at work Robb has been home. So we hang out and play games and whatnot, and I don't make time to blog. Or we go out and see a movie and I am not home to blog...
Speaking of...
We saw Prince of Persia on Wednesday. Or...Thursday? I don't know...anyway, we saw it. I have always been a fan of the games, so I knew I had to go see the movie. I also knew it would suck. So...I wasn't disappointed. Don't waste your time or money. It's not a good game adaptation (surprise), and it's not really that good of an action movie. It's about 45 minutes too long. And the biggest shame? Jake Gyllenhall is shirtless in exactly 2% of the movie. Yeah...not even much at all. I figured it would be at least worth it to see him running around half-naked for two hours...but...they couldn't even pull that off.
And Saturday night we went to see Shrek 4. I didn't have high expectations for this one, either, but it was actually way better than I expected it would be. I liked it, believe it or not! The storyline is forced, but it's pretty funny. Rumplestiltskin makes a pretty good (and creeeeepy) bad guy. He's no Fairy Godmother, but he's pretty good. It's nice to see a little bit of what might have been had the first Shrek not gone according to plan. But yeah...not genius or anything, and definitely the least good of the four movies. But it wasn't terrible.
So...there. An update, of sorts.

2D vs. 3D...
Now that I've seen Alice in Wonderland in both 3D and 2D, I'll say this:
It was a good movie. Very fun if you're familiar with Lewis Carroll's works, especially the poem Jabberwocky, despite the fact that they BUTCHER it for the sake of the movie--replacing the word "Jub-Jub bird" with "Jabberwock" even though the Jub-Jub bird is IN the freaking movie. I digress. But really, I couldn't have seen enough of the Red Queen's castle. That heart-shaped arch in the front just blows me away every time I see it! Amazing stuff. And so funny!
So yes, I'd recommend that you go see it before it is out of theaters. But the hard question remains: 2D, or 3D?
Well, I found the 3D to be completely distracting at times. It was well done, and the movie seemed to be made with 3D in mind, what with the action coming at the screen more often than not. There were several times I was ducking or leaning. And the color! Oh, the color was so amazing! But I feel like I missed seeing a lot of stuff because I was distracted by what was #d and what was not.
The boy and I saw it in 2D last night, and I seemed to catch more of the movie than I did when we saw it in 3D. It may have been the theater in which we saw it, but the color wasn't nearly as impressive as it was in the 3D showing. And again...it just could have been the quality of the film or the theater's machine or whatever...it just seemed sort of washed out.
So, my analysis? In 3D, I didn't see as much as in 2D, but what I did see was far more impressive. And in 2D, I saw everything, but it wasn't nearly as pretty.
So...there. I guess I'd recommend seeing it in 3D over the 2D, and that's hard for me to say, since I'm sort of against the whole 3D movement.
But that, dear friends, is another post.

I Saw A Movie?!
Yes, I saw a movie. In the theater. That NEVER happens.
The boy and I went to see Up. And I suggest you log out and go see it RIGHT NOW. The first five to ten minutes of the movie were maybe my favorite scenes in all of cinema. Holy cow. So moving.
The movie was an interesting collage of a lot of random elements that ended up working out REALLY well. Go see it. I mean that.
In other news, (to take a cue from Peter Griffin) do you know what really grinds my gears?
I can't stand hearing people say "social security." No one says it as it was meant to be said, as two words. All I ever hear is "Sosecurity" or "Soshsecurity." It never used to bother me, but now, I'm so tired of hearing it. Even the NPR announcers say it from time to time.
Stop it. And go see Up.

Who Is Watching...
...The Watchmen.
The boy and I went to see Watchmen on Saturday night. I was fairly impressed with how closely it followed the graphic novel, having just finished reading that. They made some fairly stupid choices, though, such as changing Bubastis's color for no reason and blaming John for the nuclear blasts rather than banding the world against a different outside force. Although that one I could understand...
Anywho, I swore I wouldn't talk about the blue junk, but I can't resist. It wasn't really all that noticeable or distracting. Until. There was a scene near the end of the movie where he was walking towards the camera, and the realistic juggle animation was only slightly less distracting than Lori's coochie-cutting bodysuit. How'd you like to have been the guy who has to animate Dr. Manhattan's jiggling blue junk? Yikes.
As far as violence? It's an adaptation of a graphic novel, so it's what you'd expect: definitely gory, in a comic-book way. Be prepared to see some bone, some muscle, and some splatter.
I'd say, if you've read the graphic novel, fork out the cash to see it in theaters. If not, it may be a little dense for your tastes. Overall? I'd give it eight jiggling blue junks out of ten.
