Dental Fizzle...

Apparently I'm insane.

I went in. They looked in my mouth. He touched around, chilled some of my teeth to check for sensitivity. I didn't feel anything. I told him where it was sensitive. He said there were no cavities. So...I paid him $40 to tell me to try Sensodyne toothpaste and ACT mouthwash. That's it. "Try that for a few weeks, and if you're still experiencing discomfort, come back."

So I can pay him another $40 to tell me there's nothing wrong...

Hey, look on the bright side: He didn't tell you that you needed a root canal! Hopefully whatever you are/were feeling goes away soon.

Have "the boy" listen while you sleep. You might be grinding your teeth. After awhile, the dentist will see the wear but at first, all you will have is dental pain. Dave has a mouth piece he uses when he gets stressed out and starts to grind. He doesn't need it all the time.

It's funny you say that, Kathy. I asked him that yesterday! I know I've been grinding them a little when I'm awake...but he told me he hasn't noticed...but he's also WAY not observant...especially when he's sleeping.

Maybe you should get a mouthgaurd for when you're sleeping just in case.

Except that I don't have any desire to wear a mouthguard unless I know I have to.

Well, that's better than having needles and drills stuck in your mouth, and being hit with a much larger bill. And I've gone through the hot/cold sensitivity tests. HATE those!

Hey there, Justin. Just wanted to add to the mouthguard discussion. I've been using one for the past year or so (I'm a clencher/grinder, ugh!) and they're really not that bad. In fact, I sleep better now because of it -- although I think that has more to do with me no longer worrying that I'm damaging my teeth than it has to do with the mouthguard being comfy.

Anyway, one word of warning: The kind of mouthguard you get through your dentist (molded to your mouth) can be expensive, so make sure you know how much it'll cost and all that jazz before you agree to anything (if you end up getting one). I say this because I, being the naive idiot that I am, agreed to get one after my dentist noticed a bit of wear on my teeth. After going through everything (having a mold made, making sure the finished product fit my mouth, etc.), I went to pay for it and the person at the front desk said, "That'll be five-fifty." In my mind I was thinking, "$5.50? What a deal!" And then I realized she meant $550. Yes, I am an idiot :)

OK, that's more than you needed or wanted to know, especially since it sounds like you won't be getting one anytime soon (if ever), but I wanted to share.

Wow! Thanks for sharing, but that's FOR SURE out of my price range. For sure.
